about
To continue passing the time, Captain Rex Vermilion inquires with his right-hand man, Donovan, as he ponders the validity of the MASTEMA creature known to terrorize the distant cosmos. Donovan, who knows of the creature, begins telling the tragic story that leaves the crew scared out of their minds.
lyrics
Donovan, you’ve visited the off-world settlements in the Lyra sectors before, haven’t you?
Tell me, what is it about this Mastema creature that makes voices tremble so?
The story of Mastema is one of great tragedy
Its presence has ravaged life forms in the hidden galaxies for eons
He is a sentient element… engulfed in his own flame
Every tale of doom that surviving civilizations have passed on
Has alluded to a singular force so potent and so untamed that… that
That what?
His path will not cross ours, it can’t
His hunger has kept him near the larger star systems
For as long as I can remember
So I pray
You know, Mastema was once human too
Born with hopes and dreams
Like all who come into existence
And like most, his were ignored by a world entrapped in constant strife and apathy
His spirit deprived of a love uncorrupted by power and lust
And so he sought to escape through immolation of his organic form
At that, but not his soul, no, his soul remained
And all to search for some perfect Love, too
By the time our people rose to power
He had ventured long past the known frontiers
Still, he is said to roam the cosmic planes
Rolling like the thunderstorm that bred him
His very presence enough to disturb the motion of gravity
I hear the Kings of Centauri had been studying Mastema's evolution from afar
Since his last advent
They claimed that Mastema's final breach to occur on Earth
It would be certain Armageddon, if true
Though the presages remain unfulfilled
There are those that know his final words
“I'll never leave, I'll never leave, and I'll never lead you astray”
“I will never leave, and I will never lead you astray”
“I'm sorry, you know I'd never lead you astray”
